The New Audi Q5 SUV

UNLEASH THE FUTURE OF SUV

The Perfect Alliance of Elegant Design and Advanced Technology

The new Audi Q5, an SUV that embodies both innovation and tradition, enters its third generation with a bang. Since its launch over 15 years ago, this model has become one of Europe's most popular SUVs, standing out for its versatility and distinctive design. Today, Audi unveils an even more refined and dynamic Q5, ready to conquer the market once again.

Technical and aesthetic evolution

Under the direction of Gernot Döllner, CEO of AUDI AG, the new edition of the Q5 marks a significant milestone in the evolution of Audi's combustion engines. Indeed, the Q5 is now equipped with efficient engines, supported by MHEV plus (Mild Hybrid Electric Vehicle) technology, guaranteeing enhanced performance while reducing emissions. It is also the first model to be built on the Premium Platform Combustion (PPC), a platform that enables Audi to create vehicles with state-of-the-art technical standards.

Design for everyday use

The Audi Q5 isn't just beautiful; it's also designed to be practical. Its spacious, modular interior meets the needs of modern families, with a sliding, folding rear seat that allows space to be adapted to suit passengers or luggage volume. The exterior design is distinguished by its clean, dynamic lines. The single-frame grille, sculpted headlamps and chrome elements underline the SUV's sporty character, giving it an imposing presence on the road.

Technology and comfort on board

Inside, Audi focuses on user-oriented design with the “Digital Stage”, a set of high-resolution screens, including the Audi virtual cockpit and a touch-sensitive MMI screen. This digital dashboard is both intuitive and aesthetically integrated, offering a seamless user experience. In addition, dynamic ambient lighting adds a touch of sophistication, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere, especially when driving at night.

Audi also offers a wide range of personalization options for the Q5. With up to eleven exterior colors available, and a variety of high-end interior finishes, every owner can configure his or her vehicle to suit his or her tastes. When it comes to safety, the Q5 makes no compromises. The new digital OLED taillights not only improve visibility but also introduce interactive elements, communicating with other road users in the event of danger.

Performance

Under the hood, the new Q5 offers a range of powertrains combining power and efficiency. The internal combustion engines, supported by MHEV technology, deliver between 204 and 286 hp, depending on version. The 50 TDI quattro version, for example, accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.9 seconds, while maintaining moderate fuel consumption thanks to the mild hybrid system. The Q5 is also available in a plug-in hybrid version, with an electric range of up to 62 km in the WLTP cycle, offering an environmentally-friendly alternative for daily commuting.

The new Q5 has been on the market since the end of 2023, with a starting price of around 55,000 euros for entry-level versions. The most powerful and equipped versions, such as the 50 TDI quattro model or the plug-in hybrid, can exceed 70,000 euros. Audi also offers a wide range of personalization options and technology packages, enabling customers to configure their vehicle to their specific needs and preferences.

Mazda MX-5

THE LEGENDARY CONVERTIBLE CELEBRATES ITS 35th ANNIVERSARY

THE LEGENDARY CONVERTIBLE CELEBRATES ITS 35th ANNIVERSARY

Rediscovering Freedom

Sublime Magazine set off for Zadar, Croatia, to test drive the all-new Mazda MX-5 2024. In the bright sunshine of the Adriatic coast, surrounded by breathtaking scenery, we discovered a roadster that continues to reinvent itself while remaining true to its essence.

The MX-5 celebrates its 35th birthday this year, and we couldn't refuse such an invitation. What better way to celebrate a model that shines with innovation while paying homage to its roots. With new LED headlights, reinvigorated design and cutting-edge technical features, Mazda invites us to a driving experience that makes the heart beat faster. More than just a car, the MX-5 embodies that feeling of total freedom on the road, where every bend and acceleration becomes a symphony of pleasure and performance.

Since 1989, four generations of the MX-5 have followed, with 1.2 million cars produced, making it the world's best-selling convertible. Although the look and on-board comfort have evolved, the roadster's DNA remains unchanged.

The Adventure Begins

As soon as we arrived in Zadar, we were greeted by a fleet of MX-5s lined up at the marina, ready to take us on a breathtaking adventure. The vehicles' new "Aero Grey Metallic" hue blended perfectly with the crystal-clear waters and brilliant blue sky. Every detail of the MX-5 2024, from the beige soft top to the new Leganu® seat material, exuded sophistication and refinement.

Between Performance and Emotions

Zadar's varied terrain combines coastal roads, mountains, plains and country roads, offering a diversity that makes this region a perfect testing ground for the Mazda MX-5 2024. Each type of terrain highlights the roadster's various strengths, from its precise handling and raw power to its comfort and cutting-edge technology. The breathtaking scenery added an extra dimension to this exceptional driving experience.

Our route took us through the region's winding roads, revealing all the magic of the MX-5. The DSC-Track mode, designed for perfect control on the track, impressed us with its ability to intervene subtly, leaving us in control right up to the last second. The new asymmetrical limited-slip differential made every turn smoother, transforming driving into a harmonious dance.

The power of the Skyactiv-G 2.0 engine, combined with the model's light weight, gave us striking acceleration and incredible handling. Imagine yourself on those picturesque Croatian roads, hair in the wind in 3 seconds thanks to its "Soft Top" embodying the authentic "Miata", the purr of the engine in the background - it was pure pleasure. With power ratings of 132 hp and 184 hp, they may seem modest at first glance... And let's not forget the torque, which would make any electric car enthusiast smile. However, skeptics of this roadster need look no further than the advertised weight: just 1,003 kg for the 1.5-liter version and 1,041 kg for the 2-liter. Quite impressive, isn't it? Performance may seem timid, but it's more than enough to provide pleasure, with top speeds in excess of 200 km/h.

For acceleration, all you have to do is crank up the revs generously (almost all the way for the 1.5-liter) and take off with just the right amount of slip. Pick-up requires a little patience, especially with the 1.5-liter, where overtaking requires careful planning.

We're too used to modern turbocharged engines. This puts things into perspective. If you're looking for more flexibility, the 2-liter is for you, but you'd better hurry: Mazda plans to withdraw this model from Europe due to pollution standards and tax pressure.

The four-cylinder in the front mid-engine position wakes up at 3500 rpm and climbs to 7500 rpm effortlessly.

It would have deserved a more metallic, engaging sound, but the surviving small-block (introduced in 2015) shows more character from 5000 rpm, with sympathetic growls.

It remains linear but becomes slightly more nervous. Don't worry, it's more than enough to provide pleasure, thanks to the low riding position and open feel. You'll have the impression of going very fast, while respecting the speed limit.

Comfort, Safety and Technology

Inside, Mazda has left nothing to chance. The new 8.8-inch touchscreen, compatible with Android Auto™ and Apple CarPlay® wirelessly, kept us connected while enjoying the road. The soft, grippy Leganu® seats kept us comfortable throughout our journey.

Mazda has also enhanced the MX-5 2024's safety systems. The infotainment system with its large touchscreen, numerous driving aids and advanced safety features, such as emergency brake assist and traffic sign recognition, enabled us to drive with complete peace of mind.

Every moment spent behind the wheel of the MX-5 was a perfect fusion of cutting-edge technology and pure driving pleasure. The MX-5 is not just a vehicle, it's an invitation to adventure, exploration and discovery.

If you're passionate about cars and looking for an exceptional driving experience, the Mazda MX-5 2024 is for you. It embodies the perfect balance of performance, elegance and innovation.

So, dear Sublime Magazine readers, let yourself be tempted by this automotive icon. Come and experience this unique symbiosis of man and machine, and why not plan your own adventure in Zadar. You won't regret it.

The 20th BMW Art Car Unveiled

WHEN ART AND AUTOMOBILE CONVERGE

WHEN ART AND AUTOMOBILE CONVERGE

A Visionary Project

Today, the Centre Pompidou in Paris hosts an exceptional event: the unveiling of the 20th BMW Art Car, designed by contemporary New York artist Julie Mehretu. Transforming the BMW M Hybrid V8 into a performative work of art, Mehretu continues a tradition where art and competition meet. Shortly after this world premiere, the car will compete in the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

“The entire BMW Art Car project is about invention, imagination, and pushing the boundaries of what is possible. My BMW Art Car was created in close collaboration with the motorsport and engineering teams,” explains Julie Mehretu. For her, this car is a “performative painting” that will only be complete after the race.

A Performative Painting

Beyond this automotive creation, BMW and Julie Mehretu are committed to a series of PanAfrican Translocal Media Workshops for filmmakers, with events planned for 2025 and 2026. This project will culminate in a major exhibition at the Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa in Cape Town, highlighting young African talents.

“BMW Art Cars are an essential part of our global cultural engagement,” says Oliver Zipse, Chairman of the Board of Management of BMW AG. “Julie Mehretu’s vision for a race car is an extraordinarily strong contribution to our BMW Art Cars series.”

Julie Mehretu turned a flat picture into a lively 3D art piece by mixing altered photos with dot patterns, bright colors, and distinctive black marks.

A Tradition of Innovation

Julie Mehretu's BMW Art Car debuts at Concorso d'Eleganza before racing at Le Mans with BMW Motorsport drivers behind the wheel. The car, marked with number 20, blends art and vehicle design through 3D mapping. Following the race, workshops organized by Mehretu and Mandefro in African cities will foster collaboration among artists and filmmakers. The BMW Art Car Collection, starting in 1975 and featuring renowned artists like Alexander Calder and Andy Warhol, gains a new addition with the BMW M Hybrid V8. This hybrid racing car serves as both art piece and high-performance machine.

A Renowned Artist

Born in Addis Ababa in 1970, Julie Mehretu is a world-renowned painter, living between New York and Berlin. Her practice engages viewers in a visual articulation of contemporary experience, exploring the palimpsests of history and social phenomenology. Represented by Marian Goodman Gallery, her works have been exhibited in prestigious institutions worldwide.

Julie Mehretu's 20th BMW Art Car, a bold fusion of art and technology, marks a new milestone in the tradition of BMW Art Cars. By competing in the 24 Hours of Le Mans, it demonstrates that art and performance can coexist spectacularly, inspiring generations of future artists and innovators.

SUBLILME MAGAZINE X EPIC DRIVE EXPERIENCE IN ICELAND

SUBLILME MAGAZINE X EPIC DRIVE EXPERIENCE IN ICELAND

The Land of Fire and Ice

Sublime Magazine cordially invites you to embark on a breathtaking journey, experiencing the scenic splendor of an exclusive MX-30 e-skyactiv R-EV test drive through Iceland. Welcome to the land of Fire and Ice. Ahead of you lies more than 500km of exhilarating and captivating driving through the stunning, often stark, occasionally tempestuous and always breathtaking Icelandic landscape. Picture the adventure, watch the video production we made for you, and get ready to explore the fascinating features and captivating landscape as you live the MX-30 experience through Sublime's lens. We had the shivers, the earth shook, but we got home in time to tell you all about this Epic Drive Experience.

Elemental Beauty

"Embark on an unparalleled journey driving the all-new MX-30 e-Skyactiv R-EV through Iceland, a land celebrated for its striking contrast of fire and ice. Brace yourself for an exhilarating 500 km drive across Iceland's awe-inspiring, at times tempestuous, yet always captivating landscape.

Iceland's roads, especially at this time of year, offer an ever-changing experience due to unpredictable weather conditions ranging from rain to snow and icy terrain. Fear not, for Iceland's snowplough drivers are as active as the cheesemakers, guaranteeing well-graded, snow-covered roads. Every MX-30 e-Skyactiv R-EV is equipped with studded tires to cope with these ever-changing conditions.

Your trip's itinerary is punctuated by these dynamic conditions, which can take you through all 4 seasons in 1 day, just like in Belgium.

Prepare to traverse an otherworldly landscape, sculpted by glaciers, with steep mountain ridges, wide valleys and lava fields, some adorned with a luxuriant moss mantle. The absence of trees tells the story of the Vikings who, centuries ago, fashioned the trees into their longships.

Driving in Iceland presents an interesting dichotomy; a maximum speed limit of 90kph that feels like a leisurely pace on sparsely trafficked roads, yet challenging when navigating unmade terrains, akin to a Keystone Kops' challenge in a marble factory.

The island itself is a geological wonder, straddling the Mid-Atlantic ridge between tectonic plates, creating an evolving rift. The relatively young volcanic landscape hosts 35 active volcanoes, featuring the famed Hekla, Katla, and the restless Grimsvotn, enriching the terrain with fiery wonders.

Iceland's residents have endured and prevailed over natural disasters, notably the 1783 volcanic eruption's 'Haze of Hunger,' which impacted lives across Europe and potentially even contributed to the French Revolution.

Amidst its vibrant geological history, Iceland stands as a beacon of renewable energy innovation. Mazda's MX-30 e-Skyactiv R-EV, an electric hybrid designed for sustainable driving, mirrors Iceland's commitment to sustainability, integrating eFuel technology for extended journeys.

eFuels – a Viable Energy Transition

In the 20th century, Iceland transitioned from coal to 85% renewable energy, predominantly geothermal and hydroelectric. Geothermal heating is widespread, but challenges like volcanic eruptions hinder geothermal power stations. Despite this, they stand as a testament to Iceland's abundant and potent energy sources.

In 2021, Mazda, a pioneer in sustainable mobility, joined the eFuel Alliance. They advocate for CO2-neutral eFuels and hydrogen to reduce transport emissions. Mazda supports a multi-solution strategy, aiming to electrify all vehicles by 2030 while embracing internal combustion engines. EFuels, synthetic renewable energy-based fuels, play a crucial role in achieving climate protection targets by offering high energy density and easy storage. Despite challenges, pilot plants and facilities like Carbon Recycling International's showcase the potential of eFuels, providing an economical and technically feasible solution for affordable, climate-neutral fuels.

The Mazda MX-30 e-Skyactiv R-EV, part of Mazda's electrified lineup, was introduced at the Brussels Motor Show. This series plug-in hybrid complements Mazda's electric vehicles and features a compact rotary engine acting as a generator, extending the electric range to 85 km. The MX-30 e-Skyactiv R-EV showcases a collaboration between automotive innovation and Iceland's commitment to renewable energy, offering an adventure through Iceland's landscapes.

With three drive modes - Normal, EV, and Charge - the MX-30 e-Skyactiv R-EV provides flexible driving experiences. It employs drive control technology, including Electronic G-Vectoring Control Plus and regenerative-friction braking, ensuring a smooth ride. The car is compatible with various charging systems, allowing for flexible recharging at fast DC charging stations, and supports both fast and normal AC charging systems.

The Mazda MX-30 e-Skyactiv R-EV represents a significant leap in automotive innovation, integrating aluminum components in its engine design to achieve a lighter and more efficient build compared to its predecessor. This approach not only enhances fuel efficiency but also aligns with the brand's commitment to sustainability by reducing emissions.

Employing direct fuel injection and an Exhaust Gas Recirculation system, the MX-30 e-Skyactiv R-EV is engineered for environmental responsibility. It combines these features with a 50-liter fuel tank, extending its range for longer journeys, providing a versatile solution for drivers seeking both efficiency and distance capability.

The vehicle's 17.8kWh battery powers an impressive 53-mile electric-only range, delivering a green driving experience without compromising performance. With a high-output electric motor, the R-EV model maintains the engaging driving dynamics seen in the MX-30, ensuring a seamless transition to electric driving.

The MX-30 e-Skyactiv R-EV introduces three distinct driving modes—Normal, EV, and Charge—each tailored to specific driving needs. This versatility allows drivers to choose between electric or generator-powered drives based on acceleration requirements, providing a personalized driving experience. The Charge mode adds an extra layer of control, allowing users to regulate battery levels as needed.

Jeremy Thomson, Managing Director of Mazda Motors UK, expresses enthusiasm for the R-EV addition, highlighting its ability to cater to customers seeking both everyday electric driving and long-distance flexibility, providing an alternative to relying solely on charging infrastructure. Whether in electric or R-EV mode, the MX-30 maintains Mazda's signature quality, delivering a driving experience that caters to diverse customer needs.

The Mazda MX-30 e-Skyactiv R-EV offers three distinct driving modes tailored to specific purposes. In Normal mode, it maximizes electric drive performance, seamlessly incorporating a rotary engine for additional power when needed. EV mode prioritizes pure electric driving but allows the engine to engage for rapid acceleration if necessary. Charge mode empowers users to set a preferred battery charge level for specific scenarios or to power external devices.

The Makoto grade MX-30 e-Skyactiv R-EV includes a vehicle-to-load power supply, allowing the car to power standard electrical items via a 1500W standard UK 3-pin plug in the boot, enhancing versatility for activities like camping trips.

The vehicle features a compact rotary engine, a technological departure from the Mazda RX-8, utilizing aluminum components for a lighter and more efficient design. This engine integration contributes to the MX-30's class-leading environmental performance, with a WLTP combined CO2 output of just 21g/km.

The 17.8kWh battery and high-output electric motor are carefully chosen for optimal all-electric range and minimal environmental impact throughout the car's lifecycle. Steering wheel paddles in the MX-30 R-EV allow drivers to adjust the level of regenerative braking, offering a personalized driving experience. The vehicle is designed to provide driver engagement and feedback akin to internal combustion engine-powered cars, maintaining Mazda's signature Jinba Ittai connection between car and driver.

The MX-30 e-Skyactiv R-EV is compatible with AC charging as well as rapid DC charging. Moreover, it can be connected to Type 2 and CCS charging systems. This ability to use rapid chargers is uncommon amongst conventional plug-in hybrid rivals. Using a 36kW charger the battery can be charged from 20 per cent to 80 per cent in 25 minutes, with a three-phase 11kW AC charger the battery can be refilled in approximately 50 minutes, while a single-phase 7.2kW charger will take around 1 hour and 30 minutes. All Mazda MX-30 R-EV retail sales in the UK come with a half-price Pod Point home charger~.

The MX-30 R-EV is offered in nine colour combinations in total. There’s Arctic White, Polymetal Grey, Ceramic, Jet Black and Machine Grey in single tone, while to further enhance the MX-30’s styling the following twin tone colour combinations are also offered: Zircon Sand with black side panels and roof, Jet Black with silver side panels, Ceramic with dark grey side panels and black roof, plus Soul Red Crystal with black side panels and roof. While the R-EV shares the same exterior styling as the pure electric MX-30, it’s marked out by different wheel designs: Prime-Line features 18-inch grey alloy wheels, while Exclusive-Line and Makoto have 18-inch black/silver diamond cut alloys.

Alfa Roméo 33 Stradale

THE NEW “FUORISERIE” LIMITED EDITION

THE NEW “FUORISERIE” LIMITED EDITION

TRIBUTE TO THE 1967’S MODEL

Alfa Romeo is pleased to announce the rebirth of the "fuoriserie" 33 Stradale, a true "manifesto" of the Italian brand's expertise - today and tomorrow - in terms of style and driving experience. Made in just 33 exclusive examples, using a unique artisanal process, the new "two-seater" coupé combines the heritage and future of the brand, a symbol of noble Italian sportiness. For a dream to become reality, the essential ingredient is a good dose of courage and a pinch of healthy madness. It's the same recipe used for the car considered by many to be one of the most beautiful of all time, the 33 Stradale, launched in 1967.

Today, with the same boldness and vision, the Alfa Romeo team has designed and developed the new 33 Stradale, an authentic work of art in motion, the fruit of the perfect alliance between beauty and technology. The brand's aim is to offer the most exciting driving experience and the immortal charm of an icon to a very select circle of enthusiasts, who have believed in this project from the outset. The new 33 Stradale was created in the brand-new Alfa Romeo "Bottega", where designers, engineers and brand historians first listened to potential buyers, then produced the car together, exactly as in the stores of Renaissance craftsmen or the workshops of the renowned Italian coachbuilders of the 1960s.

THE OUTSIDE

The new 33 Stradale's exterior design achieves a perfect balance in proportions and surface treatment, reflecting Alfa Romeo's DNA of blending aesthetics and technique. The front showcases Alfa Romeo's signature roundness and incorporates historic design elements like the "V" shape on the bonnet-fender. The sides are sleek and dynamic, featuring large air intakes for the intercooler. The distinctive feature is the unique "elytra" door opening and a wraparound sunroof, providing an airplane-like view. The rear embraces the car's powerful essence with a central V-shaped design and evolved taillights. The aerodynamics are optimized for performance, enhancing stability and efficiency.

THE INSIDE

The interior design follows a minimalistic approach with two configurations: Tributo and Alfa Corse. Controls are kept to a minimum, focusing on an engaging driving experience. A display in front of the driver offers a unique interaction, while the steering wheel is devoid of buttons, enhancing driving pleasure. The instrument panel is clear and customizable based on driving modes. The central tunnel features mechanical switches, inspired by aviation, ensuring a precise experience. The dashboard combines aluminum, carbon fiber, leather, and Alcantara for a sporty yet sophisticated look. The seats are comfortable and come with various adjustments, upholstered in Poltrona Frau leather. The same materials and colors are used throughout the interior, creating an exclusive environment. Each model also boasts a premium seven-speaker audio system for a complete sensory experience.

A unique driving experience

The Alfa Romeo team has set itself the ambitious goal of offering a driving experience as a track car, yet in a model suitable for everyday use on the road, without compromising on comfort and safety of use, including on an everyday basis. The new 33 Stradale therefore boasts the best of Alfa Romeo engineering, as seen in the double-arm suspension with active shock absorbers, and in the evolution of the 2.9 V6 engine.

The new Alfa Romeo special edition can be fitted with a V6 twin-turbo engine delivering over 620 hp or can come in a BEV configuration with over 750 hp. Performance is outstanding in both versions. The top speed is 333 km/h, and it accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in under three seconds. The double-arm suspension with active shock absorbers and the front axle lift ensure handling and comfort. The Alfa Romeo Brake-By-Wire braking system and Brembo carbon-ceramic brakes offer high-level performance.

The aluminum H-frame and carbon fiber monocoque guarantee rigidity and lightness. Again to ensure high qualities of rigidity and safety, a roof structure has been engineered in carbon fiber and aluminum, with hinged butterfly doors.  The window frames are also made of carbon fiber, with the rear window in polycarbonate.

The car’s tuning will be supported by F1 driver Valtteri Bottas on the legendary Balocco track, thus bringing F1 experience into everyday driving and ensuring Alfa Romeo’s unmistakable handling.

The new “fuoriserie”

The sensual and attractive line – the work of the Alfa Romeo Centro Stile – gives this unique “fuoriserie” (‘custom-built’) car a combination of beauty and performance. With the respect due to an authentic icon, but with just as much personality and audacity, the Alfa Romeo Centro Stile began to research study its proportions and the harmony of its lines, with enrichments to its sculptural beauty with certain design elements from Alfa Romeo's new language of style. The car's proportions are fully in line with the original: the wheelbase relates to the length; the diameter of the wheels relates to the height. In addition, certain design details have changed, but the inspiration remains the same: the “brutal” rear is balanced by the sinuous front and the maximum height is not at the level of the windshield, as on any other sports car, but in the middle of the roof.

LIMITED EDITION

Made in only 33 exclusive units, according to a unique artisan process, the new “two-seater” coupé combines the brand’s heritage and future as the symbol of noble Italian sportsmanship.

To make a dream come true, the essential ingredient is a good dose of courage and a pinch of healthy madness. This was the same recipe as for the car considered by many to be among the most beautiful ever: the 33 Stradale, launched in 1967. Today, with the same boldness and vision, the Alfa Romeo team has designed and developed the new 33 Stradale, an authentic work of art in motion, the upshot of the perfect combination of beauty and technology. Its goal is to provide the most exciting driving experience and the immortal charm of an icon to a very small circle of enthusiasts, who have believed in the project ever since the outset. The new 33 Stradale was created at the newly founded Alfa Romeo “Bottega”, where the brand’s designers, engineers and historians first listened to potential buyers, then produced the car together, exactly the same way as in Renaissance artisan boutiques and in the 1960s workshops of renowned Italian coachbuilders.

Bang & Olufsen

THE FERRARI COLLECTION

THE FERRARI COLLECTION

TWO ICONIC BRAND SIGNATURES

Bang & Olufsen and Ferrari’s collaboration marks two renowned brands coming together for a moment in history. The strength of this collection not only lies in the unmatched heritage, passion, and performance of both Bang & Olufsen and Ferrari, but the way in which both have leaned into their brand signatures to create something iconic. Excellence in aluminium craftmanship for Bang & Olufsen. The striking shade of red, world-renowned for being linked with Ferrari. “The key to a successful collaboration, undeniably, is to create a product that feels instantly associated, in equal measure, with both participating parties” says Senior Vice President of Business Development at Bang & Olufsen, Christoffer Poulsen. “That can often be a hard task, but in this instance, when both brands are known for such strong visual identities as Bang & Olufsen and Ferrari do, makes the process seamless”.

BANG & OLUFSEN ALUMINUM EXCELLENCE

Bang & Olufsen has championed design with aluminium for nearly 70 years. In 1955, when the industry convention was to use heavy metals such as cadmium, chrome and nickel in audio products, engineers at Bang & Olufsen became intrigued by the possibilities of aluminium, a material that was strong, flexible, flat and resistant to corrosion. Today, the slick, mirror- like aluminium surfaces have become an integral and ubiquitous part of the Bang & Olufsen design aesthetic, most notably in the loudspeaker category. From the Beosound 8000, Beolab 18 and most recently the Beolab 28 home speakers, aluminium is the material used to create strong links across decades of design.

“Since the 1950s, aluminium has become central to Bang & Olufsen’s design ethos and principles and is something we champion in the industry today”, Poulsen remarks. “From accents like the outer ring of our iconic Beosound A9 home speaker, and the frame of our flagship Beolab 90 loudspeaker, to the body of our entire portable speaker and headphone portfolio, aluminium is integrated into our brand past, present, and future at its core”.

Aluminium craftsmanship continues into The Ferrari Collection, predominantly in Beosound 2. Upon first glance, the continuous piece of aluminium that envelopes the speaker may seem like a choice based on aestheticgoals, butitismuchmorethanthat. Thestiffnessofthematerial and the seamless surface that one piece of aluminium gives Beosound 2 significantly eliminates distortion of the sound that the speaker produces. The intersection of function and beauty has been explored throughout the entire capsule collection, drawing similarities with the approach to designing a supercar.

SIGNATURE RED

Enzo Ferrari is, famously, reputed to have said: “Ask a child to draw a car, and certainly he will draw it red.” When he founded Ferrari in 1947, red was associated with the Italian nationality among fans of international motorcar racing, leading Enzo Ferrari to keep this colour as a signature for his cars.

Still today, red is synonymous with Ferrari in the supercar and motorsport world and was the instant choice when collaborating with Bang & Olufsen to design the collection.

“With two iconic legacies in play, every step in the design process demanded careful consideration” Christoffer Poulsen explains.

“Drawing from Ferrari’s signature red, we explored and considered a number of different hues from the painting palette available for Ferrari cars. We finally selected a modern, mature red with deep cherry undertones. Paired with a timeless black and applied to the aluminium via double anodisation, the colour perfectly unites our two brands in a uniquely bold expression. The roar of the red is impossible to ignore. And the depth of the black draws you in, revealing the layers of craftsmanship.”

FACTORY 5. WHERE WORLDS COLLIDE

During the development of the Beosound 2 Ferrari Edition, Bang & Olufsen's Factory 5 in Struer, Denmark, played a crucial role. The main process involved in creating this collaboration is anodization, where aluminium surfaces are treated electromechanically. Factory 5's anodizing facility is impressive, with a 50-meter length and 50 vats, each holding 3800 liters. Three robot cranes controlled by a ceiling rail move aluminum components through a meticulous process, starting with degreasing, desmutting, oxidizing, dyeing, and sealing, with intermittent rinsing stations. The dyeing stage, in particular, brought the product to life, especially in the vibrant red chosen for this collaboration. It was a moment of magic where Ferrari's energy merged with Factory 5's, creating an awe-inspiring product.

Starting today, The Ferrari Collection will be available online at www.bang-olufsen.com, at selected Bang & Olufsen and Ferrari stores, and online at www.store-ferrari.com.

MAZDA CX-60

Japanese To The Core

Japanese To The Core

TEST DRIVE

---------------------

TEST DRIVE ---------------------

THE BODY

Mazda, the Hiroshima-based Japanese carmaker, has for many years been known for designing and producing cars that offer a dynamic driving experience and superior craftsmanship. The Mazda CX-60 is no exception, refining the current styling language inspired by the 'kodo design' concept to create a robust SUV measuring 4.74 metres. The imposing front end, characterised by a long bonnet and flowing lines, perfectly reflects the identity of the Mazda brand.

The imposing front, with its long bonnet, and the truncated rear give the Mazda CX-60 a powerful and dynamic appearance. The new L-shaped light signature, which also incorporates the direction indicators, adds a further touch of refinement. In addition, the subtle lines on the sides of the car give an impression of movement when viewed from the side.

The Mazda CX-60 is available in eight body colours, with the new Rhodium White finish, part of the evolution of Mazda's Takuminuri paint technology, joining Soul Red Crystal and Machine Grey as a third specific option. Although up to 20-inch wheels are available to add a sporty touch, some may bemoan the absence of sporty details such as black headlining and black badging.

For our test drive, we drove the TAKUMI version in Rhodium White, which gives the CX-60 a luxurious yet classic look.

THE SOUL

As for the interior, Mazda has applied the Japanese MA concept, which emphasises the beauty of emptiness and the principle of 'less is more'. They have succeeded perfectly in embodying this in the CX-60, with a dashboard that is both uncluttered and recognisably Mazda. The design is logical and simple, but with great attention to detail. The choice of materials and their quality are first-rate. The Takumi version is distinguished by the addition of a sophisticated element on the fabric part of the dashboard.

The controls for cooling/heating the seats and the temperature inside the car are discreetly integrated beneath the central infotainment system. The 12.3-inch screen is ergonomically positioned at eye level. It is equipped with wireless versions of Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and can be controlled using the handy rotary knob on the centre console while driving, but also via the touchscreen when the vehicle is stationary.

The spacious, easily accessible boot can hold up to 570 litres of luggage, which can be increased to 1,726 litres by folding down the rear seats. However, the boot lid, which does not open very high, can be an inconvenience for tall people.

The CX-60 features a driver personalisation system that automatically recognises the driver and adjusts the position of the seat, steering wheel, mirrors, active driving screen, audio and climate settings. It's a fun and practical feature of the CX-60. These settings can then be refined and saved by the driver. Afterwards, the car will recognise the driver again and automatically reset all the necessary settings. The Takumi version's Nappa leather seats offer great comfort, but lack lateral support.

In the rear, legroom is fairly limited. As an adult, you'll enjoy more space in the back of the CX-5, despite its smaller size, than in the larger CX-60.

THE POWER

Mazda has focused on driving quality and dynamics for the CX-60. As a driver, you'll feel a direct and precise connection with the car. Thanks to their kinematic posture control system, cornering is more controlled and handling is improved. The PHEV AWD engine combines a 2.5-litre 4-cylinder petrol engine, an electric motor and an 8-speed gearbox. With a total output of 327 hp/241 kW and 500 Nm of torque, the CX-60 can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 5.8 seconds. The 17.8 kWh battery offers a theoretical range of 63 km. In addition, Mazda offers in-line 6-cylinder diesel engines with different power outputs (200 hp and 254 hp) as well as a 3.0-litre in-line 6-cylinder petrol engine with mild hybrid technology.

Therefore, for the time being, we must make do with the CX-60's PHEV engine. The PRIME-LINE base model, which has a starting price of 50,890€, is available for purchase. The EXCLUSIVE-LINE, which starts at 52,390€, is reached by moving up the ladder, followed by the HOMURA, which starts at 56,490€ and is a luxuriously equipped vehicle. The most expensive TAKUMI model, which we had the opportunity to test drive, costs 57,990 euros. It has a nappa interior and more upscale materials.

With the CX-60, Mazda is in a fantastic position to compete with the greats of the luxury sector because they increased the degree of finish, driving dynamics, and design. The outstanding efficiency and track stability, combined with with the serene stylishly finished cabin, make for a pleasantly comfortable car.

Nyobolt

An electric sport car fully charged in less than 6 minutes

Charged in less than 6 minutes

FAST-CHARGING BATTERIES

UK-based developer Nyobolt has introduced an electric sports car concept equipped with ultra-fast-charging batteries. The company claims that the car can be fully and repeatedly charged in under 6 minutes using its in-house rapid-charging technology. With a 35kWh battery, the car offers a range of up to 250km. Nyobolt's innovative approach allows for charging speeds equivalent to over 1,600 mph, surpassing current industry standards. The compact design of the batteries resembles AA batteries commonly used in households. By harnessing this technology, Nyobolt aims to electrify its sports car, enabling it to travel impressive distances on just a 6-minute charge.

Make it stand out

If the drivers are worried about the lifespan of  Nyobolt’s ultra-fast-charging batteries, the developer claims that it has tested its batteries for over 2,000 fast charge cycles ‘without significant performance loss.. Moreover, Nyobolt technology is not limited to small batteries. Larger packs, such as batteries as large as those employed in any luxury EV, truck, or bus used today, can also be made and could be charged in a few minutes, once 1MW chargers become available,’the Nyobolt team adds.

Performance

Nyobolt assures drivers that its ultra-fast-charging batteries have undergone extensive testing, with over 2,000 fast charge cycles conducted without any significant performance decline. The company also highlights that its technology is not limited to small batteries, as larger packs used in luxury electric vehicles, trucks, and buses can be produced and charged within minutes once 1MW chargers become available.

A Tribute To Lotus Elise

Renowned designer Julian Thomson, in collaboration with design and engineering firm CALLUM, contributes to the electric sports car's development. Taking inspiration from Thomson's Lotus Elise design, Nyobolt presents a nimble and lightweight sports car with bolder styling. The car's exterior features distinctive proportions, showcasing a wider, longer, and lower profile, exuding a confident and dynamic presence.

Mercedes Concept Vision One-Eleven

From horsepower to powered by electric

From horsepower to powered by electric

A tribute to the experimental 1970 C 111 prototype.

Mercedes-Benz has unveiled the Vision One-Eleven concept, paying tribute to the experimental C 111 prototype from 1970 by combining innovative electric propulsion technology with a striking design. Designed and manufactured at the International Design Center Mercedes-Benz in Carlsbad, California, the Vision One-Eleven concept reinterprets the lines of the C 111 prototype, which was produced in 15 units by the German automaker in the 1970s. Inspired by the copper-orange livery of the C 111 prototype, the Vision One-Eleven concept boasts an incredibly low profile, standing at 1.17 meters tall, with sleek lines and butterfly doors reminiscent of its predecessor.

YASA The British Electric Vehicle Motor Manufacturer

While the Mercedes-Benz C 111 relied on various internal combustion engines, including diesel and V8 Turbo units, the Vision One-Eleven concept embraces a contemporary approach with axial flow motors supplied by the British company YASA. These motors offer unparalleled power density while being extremely lightweight.

The Onbaord Space

The interior of the Mercedes-Benz Vision One-Eleven presents an unprecedented lounge concept for a sports car. In race mode, with the raised backrest and a compact touch screen oriented towards the driver, the cabin transforms into a minimalist driving environment. Conversely, in "lounge" mode, the seats seamlessly integrate with the interior structure, merging the door sills, central tunnel, and luggage compartment into a cohesive whole, thereby completely altering the onboard space.

Mercedes is the New Orange

Mercedes-Benz designers have played with colors and materials to create a comfortable cabin, utilizing a white honeycomb-effect fabric that covers large surfaces such as the dashboard (composed entirely of 100% recycled polyester). Vibrant orange leather, treated sustainably, adorns the armrests, center console, and rear shelf. Polished aluminum is employed for the steering wheel, straps embedded in the armrests, as well as the brake and accelerator pedals. The bucket seats are equipped with four-point orange harnesses featuring a shiny polished buckle.

Beauty & Future

"At Mercedes-Benz, our goal is not just about creating style but about crafting icons," concludes Gorden Wagener, Head of Design at Mercedes-Benz Group AG. "To me, that is the difference between mainstream design and luxury. Design icons like the Type 300 SL and the C 111 prototype, both featuring butterfly doors, are part of our DNA. These legendary vehicles have been significant sources of inspiration for the design of the Mercedes-Benz Vision One-Eleven. It embodies the combination of beauty and the extraordinary in our vision for the future."

The new Range Rover Sport SV in 7 points

A 7-Point Review by Sublime Magazine

A 7-Point Review by Sublime Magazine

Let's cut to the chase: this SV version is the most powerful and dynamic Range Rover Sport ever produced by the British manufacturer. Anything but a tuned version of the sporty Range Rover, this new SUV is a model in its own right. And why is that? Because it inherits its own equipment and technologies. Last May, Land Rover invited us to preview this amazing car. A perfect opportunity to highlight seven features that make it an extraordinary vehicle!

1. A 635 hp supercharged V8

The new Range Rover Sport SV boasts a powerful engine block: a supercharged 4.4-litre V8 that generates 635 hp and 750 Nm of torque. An athlete's heart that enables it to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.8 seconds and easily reach 290 km/h! Meteoric performance for such a massive vehicle!

2. On a diet

Compared with the new classic Range Rover Sport, this SV version has managed to lose 76 kg. This forced diet is due in particular to the adoption of 23-inch carbon-fibre wheels (a first on a production vehicle) and carbon-ceramic brakes designed in collaboration with Italian equipment manufacturer Brembo. The bonnet is also made of carbon fibre, while the bodywork has undergone a number of aerodynamic improvements.

3. Revolutionary

suspension

The Range Rover Sport SV introduces an innovative combination of interconnected hydraulic dampers and height-adjustable air springs. This revolutionary semi-active system, which eliminates the need for conventional anti-roll bars, helps to reduce pitch and roll to maintain near-perfect body position through corners and under extreme acceleration, while increasing grip and ensuring a high level of comfort.

4. Michelin… or nothing!

To fit this exceptional SUV, Jamal Hameedi, who heads up the British manufacturer's SV division, has set his sights on Michelin. For him, the choice was a logical one, as "Michelin designs the best tyres in the world". What's more, for the first time on a Range Rover, the front and rear axles are fitted with tyres of different sizes: 285 mm wide at the front and 305 mm wide at the rear. These are four-season tyres (Michelin Pilot Sport All Season 4) capable of withstanding lateral acceleration of over 1.1 G! That's unprecedented for tyres of this type!

5. Eight pistons

As for the brakes, the Range Rover Sport SV features Brembo Octyma eight-piston callipers, specially developed for this model. These are the largest ever fitted to a Range Rover. They feature a cross-shaped piston arrangement to maximise braking efficiency. The calipers are available in a range of exclusive colours, including yellow, red, black and carbon bronze.

6. SV Mode with a kick

To intensify the model's sporty behaviour even further, the driver can press an SV Mode button located at the bottom of the steering wheel. Even more ferocious than the Dynamic Mode of the classic Range Rover Sport, SV Mode optimises the steering, the 8-speed automatic gearbox, the throttle response, the exhaust note and the suspension system (with the ride height lowered by 15 mm). The result is an even more dynamic and efficient driving experience.

7. A revolutionary

Hi-Fi system

Not content with being among the best in terms of performance, the Range Rover Sport SV also boasts a high-fidelity system that promises an immersive experience that is unique on the market. Yes, racing car enthusiasts can also be seasoned music-lovers! And where the competition is trying to differentiate itself with a plethora of speakers, Land Rover has opted instead to team up with a start-up specialising in the development of tactile audio systems: California-based Subpac.

In practical terms, this consists of an innovative seat with transducers integrated into the backrest, combined with optimisation software based on artificial intelligence. Called Body and Soul, this seat analyses the music being played by the audio system to generate vibrations that are then transmitted to the back of the front-seat passengers. So you can really 'experience' the music without having to turn up the volume to indecent levels. We had the opportunity to try out this new technology in the Range Rover Sport SV as part of a world preview, and the result is nothing short of stunning!

Equipped in this way, the new Range Rover Sport SV promises to challenge the best-performing SUVs currently available on the market, such as the Lamborghini Urus, Porsche Cayenne, Ferrari Purosangue and BMW X5 M (which uses the same engine), with the difference that, like a good Land Rover, this extreme sports car will always be able to overcome the insurmountable and get you to your destination, whatever the terrain. In short, an exceptional 4x4 that will be yours for the princely sum of € 210,910 (Belgium).
